The wide selection of styles only enhances the vehicle's storied strengths of improved visibility, reduced noise, improved city gas mileage, improved sound system. AM General's first try at this didn't go over too well with this important audience, however, as its trouble-laden 8 Cylinder Engine and boring styling made it wildy unpopular. The 4WD Special Purpose Vehicles segment is fast becoming as important as the midsize sedan segment, as more and more families are discovering the pleasures of utility and efficiency these automobiles provide. The outlook looked bright for the 4WD Special Purpose Vehicles.
The reviews came in favorably as the year came to a conclusion. Not even the press could anticipate what kind of sales acceptance it would receive. It is, and still is, the "safe" choice in the 4WD Special Purpose Vehicles class.
Performance Data
A four-speed automatic is optional. For safety, the Hummer has upgraded stereo as optional equipment. This year, the Hummer received an extra 3.5-liter 8 Cylinder Engine. The new 6.5L 8 Cylinder Engine won't overly impress with its low-end response, but once it revs up a bit, the 1997 AM General Hummer feels pretty quick.
Redesigned Interior
The dashboard features a sporty three-pod instrument layout and an uncluttered prime stack. Inside, the dash, innate console and door panels are now covered with expensive wood trim and the analog alarm clock mounted in the necessary of the dash. New interior factors akin to redesigned seats with door panels found their techniques into the brand new model.
The Hummer is roomy for its make, offering generous accommodations for its front and rear passengers. Inside you'll locate plenty of headroom. This vehicle has markedly better in its internal advent for this vehicle year.
Real-World Driving with the Hummer
Thanks to increased wheel travel, the ride is smoother, and it's further enhanced with premium shock absorbers and rear sway bars. Greatfully, with a refined suspension that offers plenty of wheel travel, the Hummer's ride is smooth. The car overall is very reliable. Wind noise at speed tends to be high. Is this an element of the design?
