Will 2002 be the Year of the Nissan Frontier 2WD? The 2WD Small Pickup Trucks segment is fast becoming as important as the midsize sedan segment, as more and more families are discovering the thrill of utility and efficiency these vehicles provide. In hopes of putting the Frontier 2WD on top for 2002, Nissan put its main contender through the automotive equivalent of ninja school, endowing it with larger interior packaging, better gas mileage, reduced noise and longer-lasting tires. Rather than have just one model trying to do it all, Nissan offers different versions to suit just regarding every interested bargain-hunter. It is, and still is, the "safe" choice in the 2WD Small Pickup Trucks class.
Technical Specifications
In rear offset testing (conducted by the IIHS), the Frontier 2WD has earned an "above average" score. The Frontier 2WD SE also comes with better gas mileage, lower cost and a sport-tuned suspension to keep it glued to the road. All trim levels are available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Behind the Wheel
The seats are good, except driver's seat lacks loads of lumbar support, so is likely to get closer some back pain. A stiff chassis translates into a car that's easy to drive on the edge and satisfyingly precise on the highway. The fresh tires yield a superior grip moving around.
While the retail price of $23199 may seem high, there's plenty of value for the money with this vehicle.
It handles well in all driving opportunities and is a reliable model. This car is without a doubt one of the most happier cars on the highway you can afford.

- A new front facia, rear bumper, side skirt alteration, new taillights and wheel designs freshened the Frontier 2WD's look.
- As a result of product testing a new higher-strength driveshaft was introduced in 2002.
